A CELEBRATION OF INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 1
The Harvard Club of Chicago invites you to celebrate Indian Heritage Month, featuring Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, JD' ‘00, Saturday, October 1.
The Congressman will share with us his remarkable journey from India to US Congress.
Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi represents the 8th District of Illinois, which includes Chicago’s west and northwest suburbs. He serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, the Committee on Oversight and Reform and as Chairman of its Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, Vice-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Immigration Task Force, and as an Assistant Whip for the Democratic caucus.
He also is the founder and Chairman of both the bipartisan Congressional Caucus to End the Youth Vaping Epidemic and the bipartisan Solar Caucus.
Raja previously served in Illinois state government on the board of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, as a Special Assistant Attorney General in the office’s anti-corruption unit, and as Deputy State Treasurer, before becoming president of small technology businesses in the Chicago area. He earned a bachelor’s degree in \Mechanical Engineering from Princeton University, and received his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School in 2000.
Raja and his wife, Priya, a physician, live in Schaumburg with their two sons and daughter.
Guild Row Social Club: the celebration of Indian Heritage Month will be held at Guild Row Social Club, an exciting new Avondale venue created by three Harvard Alums. The renovated campus, once an industrial site, offers numerous amenities, including a members lounge with a full cafe and bar, co-working space, a small library and several event spaces.
The Celebration menu from Thattu catering, includes appetizers, a sweet, specialty drink, and Guild Row’s popular no-host bar.
Vegetarian Appetizers: Parippu Vada (veg, gf) - crispy and crunchy 3-lentil fritter served with a dollop of coconut chutney, Beet Puff - baked *spicy red beet pastry puff
Non-vegetarian: Kerala Fried Chicken Sliders *spicy fried chicken with greens and curry leaf aioli
Dessert: Fried Plantains (veg) breaded sweet plantains
Drink: Malabar Ginger Cooler Black pepper & Cardamom infused drink with fresh ginger, mint, lime and seasonal fruit
